Rapper Tory Lanez is reportedly in “good spirits” after being violently attacked and stabbed 14 times by another inmate at a California prison where he is serving a 10-year sentence for shooting hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion.

Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was assaulted Monday morning at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. He suffered seven stab wounds to his back, four to the torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face. Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was initially placed on a breathing machine, but he is now breathing independently.

Despite enduring significant pain, Lanez is communicating normally, maintaining a positive outlook, and expressing deep gratitude to God for his recovery. He also thanked his supporters for their ongoing prayers and encouragement during this difficult time.

The attack occurred around 7:20 a.m., prompting an immediate response from prison staff, who administered first aid and called 911. Lanez was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. His condition has been described as stable, and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

An investigation into the motive and circumstances of the stabbing is underway, led by the prison’s investigative unit and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office. No further details about the attacker or motive have been released.

Lanez is serving his sentence following a high-profile conviction for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. He was found guilty of three felony charges, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The case has drawn significant attention and divided opinions within the hip-hop community.

As of Monday evening, Lanez’s representatives have not provided additional updates, but his social media statement emphasized his gratitude for surviving the ordeal and the support he continues to receive.
