“Late Night Revelation”: Evading Chaos
We’re thrilled to introduce Bob Coonrod, an amazing screenwriter who is making waves in the industry! His latest project, “Late Night Revelation” has earned them a spot as finalists for the Best Dark Comedy Screenplay Award at the Houston Comedy Film Festival. Late Night Revelation is a dark comedy that captures the chaotic lives of a down-and-out couple making one last, desperate attempt to escape the cycle of bad decisions they’ve been trapped in for years. When an unexpected explosion shakes up their plans, they find themselves packing up and heading toward an uncertain future, filled with both opportunity and the haunting consequences of their past.
The Inspiration Behind “Late Night Revelation”
The idea for Late Night Revelation came from personal observations during the writer’s time in the Dallas nightclub scene. “I had friends, acquaintances, and business associates back then who constantly got themselves into trouble. I just stood on the sidelines, observing, never participating in those shenanigans… cough,” the creator joked.
These experiences laid the groundwork for the film’s strong, relatable characters, who are flawed yet determined to break free from their self-destructive habits. The story taps into the essence of a lifetime of foolish choices and how people navigate the consequences with a sense of humor and resilience.
Challenges in Crafting the Story
One of the biggest hurdles in creating Late Night Revelation was the script rewrite. With two main characters and many possible narrative directions, the challenge was staying focused on one core story while leaving room for future development. “I knew I had to keep the characters together, but it wasn’t about their relationship—it was about how they could get out of their current situation,” the writer explained.
Though the script is currently a short, the foundation for a longer version exists, with several directions the plot could take. There are also other characters within the story who could be explored further in a feature-length film. Short scripts, while challenging, provide an opportunity to laser-focus on a single storyline and build the groundwork for larger projects.
From Improv to Scriptwriting
With years of experience writing for both fun and business, the creator has always been passionate about storytelling. A founding member of several improv groups in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including “Four out of Five Doctors” and “Lone Star Comedy,” they honed their skills in crafting quick, witty scenes and improvised stories.
“Improv is the key component of writing, directing, and acting. It’s the springboard that gets your creative juices flowing,” they shared. This foundation in improv has provided endless inspiration, allowing them to develop dynamic, character-driven stories like Late Night Revelation.

What’s Next?
While turning Late Night Revelation into a feature-length film is a priority, there are other exciting projects in the works. One of these is a period piece set in the 1940s about four boys on an adventure down the Red River, based on a true story. “There’s another story too,” the creator teased, “but that’s a secret.”
On the Horizon
As Late Night Revelation continues its journey, the goal is to expand the story and explore the complex lives of its characters. With a unique blend of dark comedy and heartfelt moments, the film promises to keep audiences engaged while delving into the sometimes absurd consequences of human behavior.
Stay tuned for what’s next from this creator—whether it’s Late Night Revelation in feature-length form or another exciting project, one thing is clear: the stories to come will be full of heart, humor, and unexpected twists.
