Kidnappers in Haiti release American nurse and her child, nonprofit says on August 9, 2023 at 2:13 pm
An American nurse and her child have apparently been released by their kidnappers in Haiti after they were abducted in late July from a small health clinic near the capitol of Port-au-Prince.
The nonprofit Christian ministry El Roi Haiti said in a Wednesday blog post that Alix Dorsainvil and her daughter were still recovering and did not release any further details on the release.
“There is still much to process and to heal from in this situation, so we are asking that no attempts be made to contact Alix or her family at this time,” they wrote.
There was no immediate word from the U.S. Embassy in Haiti, which closed this week amid soaring gang violence. American authorities were investigating the kidnapping.
Dorsainvil, of New Hampshire, served as the community health nurse for school children with El Roi.
She was kidnapped by a group of armed men who infiltrated El Rio and demanded a ransom of $1 million.
