Hunter Biden Convicted on All 3 Felony Charges
Hunter Biden, 51, faced a federal trial in Wilmington, Delaware, on charges stemming from the purchase of a revolver in 2018 when prosecutors argued he was in the midst of a crack cocaine addiction. After deliberating for approximately five hours, the jury convicted him on all three felony counts:
1. Illegal possession of a firearm
2. Illegal receipt of a firearm
3. Possession of a firearm while being an unlawful user of controlled substances
The trial lasted for a week, with testimonies from Hunter Biden’s ex-wife Hallie Biden, the gun vendor Gordon Cleveland, and his daughter Naomi Biden. Prosecutors presented evidence of Hunter Biden’s drug use, including text messages discussing obtaining drugs and photographs depicting drug paraphernalia.
The defense argued that Hunter Biden did not consider himself an addict at the time of the gun purchase and was making efforts to improve his life after completing a rehabilitation program. They claimed the prosecution’s case relied on circumstantial evidence and urged the jury to deliver a not guilty verdict.
However, prosecutors asserted that the evidence against Hunter Biden was “overwhelming” and proved he was using drugs and addicted to them when he acquired the firearm. They urged the jury to focus on the evidence presented, disregarding the presence of Biden family members in the courtroom.
Hunter Biden faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for each felony count. The sentencing is scheduled for September 2024.
This conviction adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing political discourse surrounding President Biden and his family, as he prepares for his re-election campaign in the 2024 presidential race.
