Houston Unites: MR. B x ERYD Food Bank Festival Fights Homelessness
On August 9th, Houston showed the strength of its community spirit during the MR. B x ERYD Food Bank Festival, powered by Hip Hop Meets EDM and held at ERYD Scooter Rental (2121 Lamar St.). This uplifting event was much more than a food drive—it was a powerful act of kindness and solidarity aimed at helping Houston’s homeless and those in need, while building awareness and connection across the city.
Houston faces a significant homelessness challenge, with recent counts showing approximately 3,280 people experiencing homelessness in the region as of 2024, including roughly one-third who are unsheltered—living without basic shelter. Despite tremendous progress—Houston has reduced homelessness by over 60% since 2011 and housed more than 33,000 individuals and families—this is still a pressing humanitarian issue affecting thousands daily. Economic crises such as job loss contribute to half of the homelessness cases, underscoring the critical need for community support.
The MR. B x ERYD Food Bank Festival served as a vital platform to address this issue by collecting clothes, non-perishable food, canned goods, and school supplies that directly aid those struggling with housing insecurity. Every donation helps provide essentials that fragile families and individuals desperately need—from warm meals to school supplies that empower children to succeed despite hardship.
An essential part of the event’s success and significance was the presence and support of the Houston Public Library (@thehoustonlibrary). As a cornerstone of community learning and empowerment, the library’s involvement highlighted an important message: Readers are leaders. Education and access to information play a critical role in breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness. The library’s outreach and resources extend hope and opportunity to vulnerable populations, making their participation in the festival deeply impactful and symbolic.
This festival was energized and supported by a rich network of community contributors:

- Volunteers like @jemihendrixx / @garageglam1, @exoticpopcommunity, @exoticpop, and @_iambreanna worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
- Coordination by @cartelvega.
- Generous sponsors such as @officialda_ninja1, @medang6, and @bolanlemedia expanded the reach and impact of the initiative.
Powered by Hip Hop Meets EDM, founded by Kimberly Anokwuru and Elijah A. Thompson, this festival is a shining example of how music, culture, and service can unite to create change. The ongoing fight against homelessness requires continued community involvement, awareness, and funding. Events like this not only provide immediate relief but also build bridges across Houston’s neighborhoods to nurture lasting hope and resilience.
By participating in and supporting such events, Houstonians demonstrate powerful compassion and leadership. Together, the city moves closer to a future where everyone has safe shelter and opportunity to thrive.
Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, performed, and brought positive energy to the MR. B x ERYD Food Bank Festival. Through your collective efforts, Houston’s heart beats stronger and brighter than ever.
