In a world where dark and heavy content often dominates our screens, Belle Guillory’s “God Be With Us” emerges as a breath of fresh air. This faith-based comedy series, which recently won awards for Best Proof of Concept and Best Director at the Houston Comedy Film Festival, is set to bring back the wholesome, feel-good vibes of 90s family sitcoms with a modern, spiritual twist.

The Vision Behind the Series
Belle Guillory, the writer, and lead actress of “God Be With Us,” drew inspiration from her own experiences growing up in a large, Christian family. As the eldest of eight children and the daughter of a pastor, Guillory understands firsthand the unique challenges and comedic moments that arise in a faith-centered household.

“I wanted to bring back that 90s feel-good [vibe] because it’s something we need nowadays,” Guillory explains. “We need this nowadays, and it’s so true, because a lot of things we watch from the news to the media, it is very dark. It’s a hard time right now, everybody.”

The series follows the journey of a teenage daughter of a megachurch pastor as she navigates public high school for the first time. Along the way, she deals with intrusions from her family and even the good Lord himself, leading to hilarious and heartwarming situations.

A Team Effort
While Guillory wore many hats in the creation of this project, she emphasizes the importance of her team in bringing the vision to life. JaNarie Rhambo, who primarily worked on music videos and commercials before this project, took on the role of director for her first narrative piece.

Rhambo’s directorial statement highlights her passion for “creating and telling stories with cinematic uniqueness, perspective, and cultivating stories that bring awareness and change in her community.” Her visual style, described as “bold, colorful, and full of life,” perfectly complements the vibrant energy of “God Be With Us.”

While the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many industry professionals noting that “now is the perfect timing” for a series like this, securing the right partnership to bring it to screens has been a journey of faith in itself.

A Message of Hope and Authenticity
