Beyoncé and Chloe Bailey Hit with $15M Copyright Lawsuit
Beyoncé and her label, Parkwood Entertainment, are facing a significant legal challenge as songwriter Melvin Moore, known as 4Rest, has filed a $15 million lawsuit against them. The lawsuit alleges that Chloe Bailey, an artist under Parkwood, used Moore’s work without proper authorization or credit in multiple tracks from her album Trouble in Paradise.
Moore claims he contributed lyrics and creative direction to songs such as “Favorite,” “Same Lingerie,” and “Might As Well” but was not compensated or credited appropriately. He asserts that despite his contributions being registered under his name for some tracks, others were released without his consent. The lawsuit includes accusations of fraudulent misrepresentation, violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), and deceptive business practices.
In his filing, Moore seeks punitive damages of $5 million for each song involved, alongside statutory damages for each infringement. He has also requested a jury trial and aims to halt further commercial use of the disputed songs.
The situation has reportedly caused distress within the Parkwood team, with insiders indicating that Beyoncé is particularly upset about the unfolding legal drama.
