Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin, the husband of “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin, has been named as a defendant in a massive federal lawsuit alleging insurance fraud. The case, filed on December 17, 2024, in New York, involves nearly 200 defendants and seeks over $450 million in damages.

The lawsuit, brought by American Transit Insurance Company, accuses Dr. Hostin and others of receiving kickbacks for performing unnecessary surgeries and fraudulently billing the insurance company. American Transit primarily insures taxi and ride-share companies like Uber and Lyft.

Key Allegations

• Dr. Hostin allegedly “knowingly provided fraudulent medical and other healthcare services including arthroscopic surgeries”.
• The defendants are accused of exploiting New York’s no-fault auto insurance laws, which require insurers to cover up to $50,000 for accident-related medical expenses ($200,000 for taxis and ride-share vehicles).
• The lawsuit claims Dr. Hostin received an “investment” interest in the Empire State Ambulatory Surgery Center in exchange for patient referrals.

Response and Defense

Dr. Hostin’s attorney, Daniel Thwaites, has vehemently denied all allegations, calling the lawsuit a “blanket, scattershot, meritless lawsuit by a near-bankrupt insurance carrier”. Thwaites argues that the case is an attempt to intimidate doctors and avoid legitimate payment obligations.

As of January 7, 2025, Sunny Hostin has not publicly addressed the allegations against her husband on “The View”. The couple has been married since 1998 and has two children.
